As Business Intelligence implementations mature in an organization and the corporate information delivery requirements solidify,the current BI solution may no longer satisfy the needs.

Company directives to consolidate technologies may require business units that previously purchased independently or merger and acquisition entities to move to a single BI vendor.

An evaluation of current expectations, future goals, and BI solutions may indicate a better solution; however the transition may seem too costly in both time and expense to make the move.

The (R)evolution methodology applied to the specialty field of Business Intelligence Conversion and Consolidation separates the effort across multiple teams with dedicated expertise. Teams share resources for a single collaborative environment with all project artifacts and information.

The four major teams used in a typical project are described below; however other personnel may augment the project to provide training, tuning, and support.

Project Management:   the Project Manager is required to be technically savvy, understanding the process, challenges, and flow encountered in conversion and consolidation projects. They jointly own the schedule, deliverables, and impacts with the client sponsor, providing regular updates to all teams.
Collection Team:  the collection team acts as both Requirements Analysts and Conversion Support Engineers. They use the project requirement documents to identify the necessary artifacts, and then interface with the appropriate client teams to collect them. They deliver the items that the Conversion Team requires from the client site.
Conversion Team:  the Conversion Team typically works remotely to create a development environment and mirror the client installations (current and target) within the virtual servers. They restore and convert the collected artifacts and create a deployable package for the Integration Team.
Integration Team:  working on the client's target environment, the Integration Team deploys the package from the Conversion Team into the BI system. They assemble any necessary components and perform any post-conversion tasks of formatting or environment-specific customization.
